Revit Implementation Tips

When the Kansas Cit Revit User Group was first formed, one of the first sessions was on Revit Implementation by Dave Willard, who I believe was with Gould Evans at the time. His presentation was on the trials and tribulations of Implementing Revit as a BIM Manager at his architectural firm. The following document came from that presentation. Project Team Training Scenarios There are various ways to approach training. The following training scenarios are some of the most common. Each method has its pros and cons, some of which are listing below each scenario: • Send employees out for vendor supplied training. i. Uses their facility – no I.S. resources needed to setup a training room ii. Certified trainers do the training iii. Learning environment is away from work pressures iv. Cost associated per person v. Usually a 2-3 day course vi. Most of the time you have a typical training syllabus provided, less customized for your firm. vii. Not so flexible training schedu

BIM and 2D, 3D ... 6D and why not?

BIM is permanently change the way we work. Here are additional concepts: 2D: Only 2-dimensional flat. 3D: Contains 3-dimensional (x, y, z) and can be manipulated from several points of view. 4D: The notion of time to a project (phases or sequences) 5D: The concept of the cost of a project (estimated) 6D: The management of the building (Heritage management or FM) Each of these concepts take it in the source and BIM can make an enormous difference to a project. Here are some software that will allow you to use the BIM in these concepts: 4D: Innovaya, Naviswork, MS Project 5D: Excel, Innovaya, Timberline 6D: FM Desktop, Archibus This blog is a translation of Daniel Hurtubise's RevitIt French Blog

BIM manager is a “must have” position, says Graphisoft’s Gallello

Dominic Gallello, president and CEO of Graphisoft , says building information modeling (BIM) managers are the new “must have” for AEC firms. The difference between CAD managers and BIM managers is a focus on collaboration, integration, and synchronization on a project, Gallello said in a recent AECBytes Viewpoint . He added: A BIM manager can be “a fundamental member of a model-based design process.” The resulting “streamlined workflow provides architects more time for design, more value for clients, and more profit.” Click to read the entire article»

Self-Paced Learning Resources

One of the most difficult aspects of my job is training. Finding options that meet the needs of every user is well, impossible. One group that I know gets ignored is that group of users that take s the initiative to learn new things outside of the training lab. I have found a couple pretty good " FREE " self-paced training options for these users, both from AUGI . In order to participate, you must be a member of AUGI and registration is free and they don't spam. The first program is the AUGI e-Learning Program a program that offers AUGI members a selection of video tutorials focusing on various Autodesk products. AUGI, in conjunction with CADLearning , is making video lessons available every month to AUGI members at no charge. These video lessons teach individual product concepts and features. Every month, new lessons in each course series will be available. Completion of the full course will take 12 to 18 months at the one-section-per-month

App to Risize any Window

I can across this AUGI post from David Kingham about an app that allows you to resize any window that normally would not resize. I have not loaded on my work machine because of company policies, but some of the Revit Guru's on AUGI seem to like it, so I though I would pass it along. The app is called ResizeEnable.zip
